Lesson 19 · Call flop, attack when they check turn · 24 practice questions
Floating = calling a c-bet IP with intent to take the pot when villain checks turn. Works vs capped ranges on dry boards.
When villain checks turn after c-betting flop, bet as a bluff (air) or value (improved hands). Seize the initiative.
Don't float every board — wet boards and strong villains reduce float profitability. Give up river when called.
• Float IP vs small c-bets on dry boards with backdoors.
• Bet turn when villain checks — delayed aggression.
• Give up when the board is too wet or villain shows strength.
Flop, villain c-bets 1/3 pot on K-7-2. You hold Q♥J♣ (two overs + backdoors) IP. Best action?
Board: K♥ 7♦ 2♣
Your hand: Q♥ J♣
Best action: Call
Why: ✓ call is the best choice here.
Floating is calling a c-bet with a weak or drawing hand, planning to take the pot away on a later street when the aggressor checks or the board changes in your favor.
It works when the preflop aggressor c-bets a wide range then gives up — checking the turn caps their range, and a well-chosen probe or float bet attacks that weakness.
